Abstract

Ovim radom istražuje se bogato stvaralaštvo modnog dizajnera Johna Galliana od studentskih dana pa sve do danas. Njegov je rad ispunjen povijesnim utjecajima i kulturalnim referencama na različite etničke grupe svijeta, obogaćen velikim umijećem, talentom i kreativnosti. Nezaboravne modne revije dodatno obogaćuju narativnu prirodu njegovih kolekcija koje s godinama postaju sve više ekstravagantne. Prepoznatljivi elementi poput romantičnosti, povijesnog kostima i teatralnosti poput lajtmotiva se isprepliću s različitom tematikom kroz godine. Upravo je ta mogućnost da se kroz godine svojim dizajnom prilagodi aktualnom vremenu bez da pritom žrtvuje vlastiti kreativni izričaj ono što Galliana ističe kao dizajnera. Svojom je maštovitosti promijenio lice couture industrije, uzdižući ju na nove visine između granica mode i umjetnosti. Modnu je kuću Christian Dior prilagodio novom mileniju i postavio standarde kakvima se modni dizajneri i danas uspoređuju. Sve to Galliana čini jednim od najznačajnijih modnih dizajnera naših, ali i svih vremena.

Abstract (english)

This thesis focuses on the rich oeuvre of fashion designer John Galliano, from faculty to present day. His work is filled with historical influences and cultural references to various ethnic groups of the world, enriched by great skill, talent and creativity. Unforgettable runway presentations further enriched the narrative nature of his collections, which became more extravagant with every passing year. Recognisable elements such as romanticism, historical costume and theatricality intertwine like a leitmotif throughout various themes over the years. The ability for adaptation of his design to current times without sacrificing creative vision is what sets him apart as a designer. With immense creativity he changed the face of the couture industry, raising it to new heights above the limits of fashion and art. He transformed the fashion house of Christian Dior and took it into the new millennium, creating a standard to which designers are compared to this day. All of that is what makes John Galliano one of the most significant fashion designer of our and of all time.
